Sorority House Director/Property Manager - Cal Berkeley (Berkeley, CA)
JOB DESCRIPTION - (You MUST have prior experience with managing sorority or fraternity houses to apply for this position)
As an on-site House Director, duties include:
Supervise household employees (Recruit, hire, train them if necessary) including conducting regular meetings per Employer standards. This staff includes a housekeeper, three kitchen employees, and a gardener.
Ensure food is prepared, stored, and served properly. Ensure kitchen staff obtains all certifications necessary to satisfy City of Berkeley and state rules. Be responsible for purchasing all supplies, including oversight of food ordering by kitchen staff, necessary for the proper operation of the House and within budget. Provide monthly updates to the House Corporation of amount spent versus budget.
Contact repairpersons and maintain the House and adjacent property and submit all bills for payment to the appropriate parties. Be responsible for supervising cleaning and minor repairs and any workers employed for such purposes. Periodically recommend any maintenance or replacement needs to the Employer.
Immediately report any damages, fire, or accident to the Employer. Be available to assist with any emergencies at the House, including fire, earthquake, or any other disaster. This includes assisting in evacuating the House in case of emergency and cooperating with emergency personnel. Coordinate fire and earthquake drills each semester, participate in semester-end damage inspections at the request of Employer.
Inform the Employer in advance, if possible, of any inspection or visit of the House by insurance adjusters, fire department, police department, government agencies, or others concerned with the maintenance, safety, and security of the House.
Be present at all functions held at the House, such as recruitment, Parents’ weekend, etc. Chapter should keep in mind that such requests should be of a reasonable nature. Assist with recruitment by helping with food preparation if needed and meeting prospective members when asked to do so.
Set living standards for the common areas ensuring the House is clean, orderly, and free from unnecessary hazards and dangers. House Director is responsible for ensuring the House is secure each evening, and the closing of all blinds, windows, doors, etc. has been completed.
Provide mature counsel and assistance to Chapter members as needed. This includes acting appropriately in the sole discretion of the Employer to all staff and members. Confer regularly with Employer and attend such meetings as requested. Confer regularly with Chapter officers and attend such meetings as requested.
Be responsible for closing and opening the House before and after each vacation period at the hours agreed upon by the Employer and the Employee.
Enforce and adhere to the rules and regulations as mandated by the Employer, Chapter, National Office of Alpha Delta Pi, University of California, state and local governments and regulatory agencies, Federal government and regulatory agencies, etc. Failure to enforce and adhere to these rules and regulations may be grounds, at the sole discretion of the Employer, for the immediate termination of employment. In this event, the Employee agrees to vacate the premises immediately and permanently.
Fulfill such other duties as are mutually agreed upon, and as are customary and usual to this type of position.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
You must have a minimum of 3 years experience managing a fraternity or sorority house or managing a similar type of residence home that also includes foodservice. Applicants without this experience will not be considered.
