Field Staff Representative (Northern & Southern CA)

The California Faculty Association is a statewide union that represents more than twenty-two thousand faculty members, librarians, coaches, and counselors of the California State University (CSU). The CSU system includes twenty-three campuses located throughout the state. Many recent changes have helped CFA to significantly increase its size and strength. The organization�s latest contracts have been its best and it is beginning to win on many of the larger, key issues that the faculty and the University face.

In addition to the traditional representation issues, CFA is engaged in a much larger fight over the future direction of the CSU system, public funding for higher education and the role that the University plays in the future of the state. The CSU struggle in California over public funding for higher education is a part of a larger national struggle-taking place in higher education across the country.

As a result, there is a great deal to do organizing and representing our members. CFA believes in employing hard-working and creative staff whose talents complement those of our elected leadership. Implementing our union�s vision requires the best staff team we can find to build on the talented group that already works with us.

We currently have two possible openings for staff field representatives. Below is a brief job description and more about what we hope to accomplish. All staff members receive an excellent pension and benefit package.

Field Representative
Salary: Mid $50�s to high $ 80�s

Locations: Northern California and Southern California

Goal: We hope to find a seasoned field representative, preferably experienced in the public sector. The ideal person will have excellent organizing skills related to program planning, turnout, and chapter and leadership development. Representation experience is a plus.

The work of our field staff team includes working with our chapter leadership on campuses to protect faculty rights, identify and involve new leaders, and developing stronger chapters through issue-based and member organizing. They also organize statewide work actions and events and support CFA political-legislative programs. All Field Representatives report to either the Northern or Southern Organizing Director.
