Under the general supervision of the Transfer Center Coordinator, and/or ComCenter Manager, the Transfer Center Specialist (TCS) is responsible for the facilitation and coordination of all requests relating to patient referral, physician consultation and transfer. The TCS must demonstrate the highest level of customer service while coordinating each request.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:

-Demonstrate exceptional customer service skills with both internal and external customers.
-Maintain a calm and professional demeanor at all times.
-Promptly answer, evaluate and prioritize incoming requests for service while communicating effectively with all callers.
-Maintain a high degree of familiarity with medical facilities, medical specialties and the type of physician required for consults and admissions.
-Collaborate effectively with hospital house supervisors and on-call specialists.
-Thoroughly and accurately document all communication related to each phone call, request, consult and transfer.
-Demonstrate a working knowledge of EMTALA rules and regulations.
-Maintain a high degree of familiarity and demonstrate compliance with all established Company and customer policies and procedures related to coordination of patient referral and transport.
-Develop a high degree of familiarity with Company service areas and medical facilities.
-Maintain a high degree of familiarity and demonstrate compliance with all established Company and customer policies and procedures as they apply to coordination of patient referral and transport.
-Demonstrate the ability to professionally and courteously 'control the call' in difficult interactions and effectively direct the flow of the conversation.
-Demonstrate the ability to take direction, work independently and as part of a group.
-Operate a computer terminal and demonstrate proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
-Operate multi-line computerized phone system.
-Simultaneously document all phone transactions using a computer aided dispatch (CAD) program.
-Be able to answer questions about insurance benefits and policy coverage
-Contact insurance companies in order to advise of patient's responsibility for transport costs.
-Strive to build and maintain professional relationship with clients
-Onsite interaction to assist clients with transport coordination and arrangement


Minimum Qualifications:

-High school diploma or equivalent.
-Demonstrated history of prior customer service experience.
-Basic knowledge of medical terminology and medical specialties (admission and consult).
-Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and professionally both verbally and in writing.
-Demonstrate the ability to professionally "control" difficult interactions and effectively direct the flow of the conversation.
-Willingness to place the needs of the clients first in decision making
-Demonstrate the ability to take direction, work independently and as part of a group.
-Knowledge of specialized medical transport equipment and resources (LVAD, balloon pump, isolette, ventilator).
-Ability to simultaneously and accurately document phone conversations.
-Must be able to sit for an extended period of time and wear a telephone headset.
-High degree of proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
-Ability to type a minimum of forty (40) words per minute.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Minimum of one (1) year of multi-line telephone experience.
-Previous work experience as a Communications Technician or EMS dispatcher.
-Field experience in EMS/Fire.
-Experience in medical insurance billing
-Emergency Medical Technician certification.

Additional Requirements:

-Must be able to successfully pass a background investigation and pre-employment medical examination, which includes drug and alcohol screening.
-Must be available to work all shifts, including but not limited to day/swing/night, weekends, holidays and mandatory overtime as needed.
-Able to rotate shift assignments as needed and/or required based on operational need.
