TEMPORARY ATTORNEY
SEIU Local 1000 is a cutting-edge union representing 95,000 California state employees and is recruiting an Attorney to work on a temporary basis for its office in Sacramento, California. This position is a full-time position, but has an expected duration of less than one year.
This is an excellent opportunity to practice labor and employment law. Our staff attorneys perform a wide variety of legal work representing SEIU Local 1000 and its members in a variety of proceedings, including administrative hearings, arbitration and courtroom settings.
Duties:
• Handle litigation, unfair labor practice charges, disciplinary hearings, and arbitrations
• Provide analysis and counsel on legal issues regarding collective bargaining, representation and other issues
• Conduct or coordinate hearings at arbitration or with the State Personnel Board
• Prepare legal pleadings, motions, discovery and stipulations
• Write, review, and edit briefs, reports, research and correspondence
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Graduation from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association
• Knowledge of labor and employment law
• Prior experience not required, but helpful
• Excellent writing and analytical skills
• Active membership in the State Bar of California
