ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS<br>
•Field, approximately 60% of time. Field work will involve preparation and implementation of transgenic field efficacy trials. This will include field layout, planting, soil sampling, genotyping, making observations, recording data, sampling plant material, making crosses, carrying out seed increases, regulatory and safety compliance, and other activities that may be required to ensure successful implementation of the field trials. Field trial work will involve periodic travel, which may require spending 2-7 nights on the road. This work also periodically involves working in hot, dry and dusty conditions.<br>
•Office and laboratory, approximately 25% of time. Laboratory work will primarily consist of genotyping, performing, and reporting the analyses listed above.<br>
•Greenhouse, approximately 15% of time. Greenhouse work will involve genotyping, making crosses, collecting samples, performing strip tests, recording data, and assisting in the design and conduct of various efficacy tests.<br>
REQUIREMENTS<br>
A preferred educational requirement of the PD Manager is to have a M.S. degree in Agronomy, Plant Breeding, Plant Physiology, or a closely related discipline. A minimum of three-year field experience is acceptable. The candidate should be familiar with field efficacy test activities and field regulatory compliance for transgenic field trials. Familiarity with plant stress physiology and molecular breeding is a strong plus. Some experience in seed inventory, data management, and statistical analysis is preferred. Domestic travels to execute field efficacy trials are required.<br>

•Organize and process seed samples including: weighing, cleaning, counting, bagging, and labeling.<br>
•Treat with fungicide seed samples for planting.<br>

•Assist with organizing and planting field trials and seed increases.<br>
•Monitor fields for agronomic and morphological observations.<br>

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:<br>
Under the guidance of the AHCP Roads Coordinator, the incumbent supports a wide variety of field tasks including conducting field inventories of stream crossings and other road related features, estimating relative sediment delivery potential from forest roads and associated structures, identifying, accurately describing and developing appropriate treatment prescriptions for road upgrading, decommissioning and maintenance activities.  The incumbent must also read and analyze topographic maps and aerial photographs to effectively travel in a forest landscape, keep legible, accurate notes, enter field data into spreadsheets and databases.  Assist in other aspects of the aquatic monitoring program as needed.<br>

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED) <br>
•	Bachelor’s degree in hydrology, geology, watershed management, forestry or related program.<br>
•	Demonstrated use of basic field measurement tools (clinometer, laser range finder, hand compass, hand level)<br>
•	Demonstrated use of topographic maps and aerial photos in a forest landscape<br>
•	Experience in road design, stream crossings, drainage systems, hydrologic influences on road networks, and erosion control and maintenance.  <br>
•	Ability to work alone or in small groups without immediate supervision.<br>
•	Ability to traverse steep and rugged terrain effectively and efficiently. Must be willing to work in wet weather conditions and have tolerance to poison oak and insect bites.<br>

Be familiar with mouse handling, dosing (i.e., IP, IM, PO, SC and IV), blood collection (IV, cardiac, and retro-orbital), tissue collection, and basic surgical skills and aseptic techniques. Proficient in rodent husbandry management.<br>

This External position is for UCD/UCDHS employees and the general public. Applications from the general public and UCD/UCDHS employees will be considered simultaneously.The Department of Human and Community Development is one of 18 departments in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences involved in teaching and research. This position is located at the Family Research Group which is a research unit within the department. The Project Interviewers,are critical to the data collection phase for the California Families Project, a National Institute of Health-funded project that studies families of Mexican origin. Dr. Rand Conger is the Principal Investigator for this study.<br>
Responsibilities: THIS IS A LIMITED APPOINTMENT WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF EXTENSION DEPENDING ON FUNDING. This is an eleven month appointment (July is furlough). The Project Interviewer is responsible for interviewing Mexican origin parents and 6th and 7th grade students in the Sacramento and Woodland areas from September to June that can take up to three hours in length for each participant and to record responses using laptop computers. Participate in formal interviewer trainings which are set to begin in late August. Assist the Project Coordinators and other research staff on a variety of tasks, including training other interviewers when needed.<br>
Requirements: Understanding and competence in social survey methodology, including in-person interviewing strategies, recruitment of research subjects, the use of computers for interviewing and data storage, maintenance of interviewing quality, and ethical survey research practices. Academic training or professional experience in the social sciences preferred. Fluency in Spanish and English and experience in the Latino/Mexican American community is critical because the research focuses on the lives of first, second and third generation Mexican origin families and children. Experience conducting field interviews or home visits and working with families under varying living conditions. Interpersonal skills to interact with all study participants and members of their families, and all project staff in a professional, positive and service-oriented manner. Skills to operate independently, use good judgment, and make spur-of-the moment decisions. Experience using laptop computers and electronic mail; basic knowledge of technological equipment, such as camcorder, and tripod, or the ability to learn. Special Conditions of Employment: This position is a critical position and subject to a background check.
