Bioinformatics Database Admin and Applications Developer (UCDavis, Davis, CA)
Responsibilities: Web developer needed for creating, implementing and maintaining complex or moderately complex databases and web-based and non-web-based applications for the Forest Genomics research community. These applications will support both internal and external high-throughput objectives. The developer will apply knowledge of SQL (PL/pgSQL), and work with complex stored procedures and code optimization. Emphasis is on the development and enhancement of existing and new high-throughput systems. This position involves creating tables, views, functions and stored procedures. In addition, Incumbent will be responsible for the management of data within both PostgreSQL and MySQL databases.
Requirements: B.S. Degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Science or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated knowledge of biotechnology, molecular biology, genetics or bioinformatics, plus logical thinking skills and attention to detail. Experience with concepts in molecular genetics and statistics. Strong background in computer software development. Proven ability to troubleshoot and develop applications. Demonstrated expertise in Internet technologies, including Web tools and third-party applications (typical tools, technologies and products: JavaScript, HTML, XML, PHP, AJAX). Experience with programming and scripting languages: Perl, Java/J2EE, C/C++. Demonstrated experience in a Unix, Linux, and Mac OS X operating systems. Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, or other SQL-based relational database system. Detailed technical knowledge and experience in use of data structures with relational database design. Solid understanding of database normalization concepts. Experience in logical and physical database design and implementation. Ability to multi-task and think independently in order to develop new solutions and procedures based upon experience in problem-solving techniques.
