Database Applications Programmer / GIS Applications Programmer (Carson City, Nevada)
Small but busy database and GIS application-development firm located in Carson City, Nevada offers a temporary position as a programmer during the upcoming year.
The ideal candidate will have experience in application development cycles in small teams, a developer-like mindset to think about programming problems from multiple perspectives, and excellent communication skills.
Mandatory skills include:
- BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
- Excellent references
- Database application development using ASP.NET, with at least 2 years of experience
- 3+ years of C# or VB.NET application development
- Proficiency in basic RDBMS operations (simple stored procedures, DDL) using MS-SQL Server 2000/2005
- Windows OS development experience
- Knowledge of ESRI geographic information systems (GIS) software and applications fundamentals
- Proficiency in using standard reporting tools (Crystal Reports, DevXpress XtraReports, ActiveReports)
- Ability to establish priorities and work on multiple project schedules simultaneously and efficiently
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
- Practical knowledge of application development lifecycles
Desired skills include:
- Strong skills in GIS programming using ESRI products (ArcGIS, ArcIMS, ArcGIS Server)
- Extensive experience with framework tools / RAD tools such as Iron Speed Developer
- Experience in integrating applications from multiple vendors through service-oriented architectures
- Ability to interface with clients to assess and understand their business needs
This is an ideal position for an entrepreneur-developer looking for a "day job" to finance her/his own work. We offer work that is challenging, even mind-stretching, in a friendly collegial environment. We recognize that few individuals have both GIS and RDBMS skills as programmers and will entertain proposals from people with different blends of expertise in each. Although not preferred by us, we will consider remote workers, provided they are able to be present in our office at least one day of each work week.
Weekly hours and start/finish times are negotiable. Preferred candidates will be able to start within one month.
