Field Service Engineer / Technician (Home office-travel USA)
Dynamic small company making alternative energy equipment needs an experienced field service technician. May be hired as a consultant and transition to an employee status if it works out. Work from home -- travel to factory or accounts around USA.
The work:
- Start up new equipment onsite.
- Make field service visits for problems and/or scheduled maintenance.
- Perform QA at the factory during the build cycle to correct problems before shipping
- Make suggestions for a better product
- Improve the check lists for pre-ship QA and onsite start-up
Equipment includes chem handling equipment up to 40 M gal / yr., but typical sizes around 10 Mgpy. Stainless tanks, x-proof motors, heat exchangers, steam, cooling condensers, still, reactors, centrifuge, partial vacuum with PLC automation and touch screen.
After equipment is delivered, positioned and plumbed the Field Service Tech/engineer takes over to bring the plant to operational status. After sign off the plant is handed over to the our chemist for start up. The Technician stays onsite to assist until the system is signed off.
Responsibilities
- Work through control loops and resolve issues
- Configure and calibrate level sensors, thermocouples and other instruments
- Test the system in manual and automatic mode
- Trouble shoots pumps, valves, actuators and instruments
- Logically track down problems and resolve them one by one
- Demonstrate chem plant safety and understand hazmat rules
- Bring the plant to operational status, then hand it over to the operators
Requirements
- At least 5 years experience in the field handling similar chemical processing equipment
- Understand P&IDs, electrical and mechanical drawings,
- Familiar and able to troubleshoot pumps, motors, actuators, instruments, PLCs and control loops.
- Able to do basic electrical trouble shooting, for example I/O cards, pull wire through conduits, seal conduits, etc.
- Experienced with control loops including level sensors, temp and pressure instruments, flow meters, digital and PID loops.
- Suitable background training such as institute or degree in mechanical, electrical or chemical engineering or similar.
- Experienced working safely around chemicals including flammables
- Able to work independently and in teams
- Organized, keeps accurate records, follows protocols,
- Demonstrated ability to plan and execute action plans
- Diplomatically handle customers
- Able to lift up to 40 lbs, climb ladders, and work around hot steam pipes and reactors and chemicals.
- Travel time is usually 3 to 5 days, but may be up to 12 days (over a weekend), during start up
- Job holder should live near a major airport.
