Large-scale studio pottery lamp attributed to the California ceramic movement of the late 1960s to early 1970s. The sculptural stoneware base features stylistic elements found in both David Cressey’s Pro/Artisan Collection for Architectural Pottery and Robert Maxwell’s work for Pottery Craft.
The form is wheel-thrown with hand-incised ring details and a surface design created through multi-angle dipping in iron and manganese oxide glazes. The bold vertical arcs alternate between exposed clay and dark oxide washes, creating a striking contrast and layered depth. While unmarked, the red-brown clay body, scale, and glaze treatment are highly consistent with documented examples from both Cressey and Maxwell studios.
