Holbrook, Merrill & Stetson was a prominent hardware and stove company in Northern California from the mid-19th to the early 20th century, with major operations in both San Francisco and Sacramento. The company was eventually merged with another firm in 1929.
~1850: The company was established by partners Charles Holbrook and Charles Merrill. Initially, they were located in Sacramento before moving their permanent headquarters to San Francisco in 1867.
1878: James B. Stetson, who had his own company, James B. Stetson & Company, merged his business with Holbrook, Merrill & Company.
1882: The newly combined business was incorporated as Holbrook, Merrill & Stetson. Charles Holbrook became the president, a position he held until his retirement, at which point he became Chairman of the Board.
