This is an authentic, vintage 1944 Downyflake Donuts Cardboard Sign. Downyflake Donuts is believed to be the first business to franchise its stores. At the end of World War II, the Donut Corporation of America published an instruction booklet aimed at recruiting returning servicemen to open doughnut shops. Dozens of Downyflake Donut shops popped up all over America by 1950. "Take Home a Package of Tasty Downyflake Donuts Plain, Cinnamon or Sugared See them made - ALWAYS FRESH! " Printed in USA -10M-07-2(44). Mark of Tested Quality TradeMark on the lower left corner. Picture of Downyflake Dan. Could be stood up on countertop with the easel on back but does not appear to have ever been used. The top edge of the sign has some chipping and the left top corner is a bit worn. As can be seen it is a bit warped. Colors are still vivid and bright. Measures 10 1/2" wide, 14" tall. Again, this is an authentic sign. $125. It is in Penryn.
