This is a US Twenty Dollar Gold Piece Coin, that is a reproduction of the one that was bent by a bullet, in the Battle of Shiloh, during the Civil War. Lt. George Dixon received the coin, from his wife in Mobile, Alabama. During the Civil War battle at Shiloh, he was shot, but the bullet was deflected by the gold coin. It apparently saved his life. He had the words, "Shiloh April 6, 1862 My Life Preserver ED" engraved on the coin. Lt. Dixon died, when the submarine CSS Hunley sank. The coin was found on his remains, when the CSS Hunley was brought up, and is now in a museum. Very interesting coin, and history.
