I grew up listening to this warm up at 5am every morning. It belonged to my neighbor who was a CAT mechanic (excellently maintained), It then spent a year with his son, then to me...The paint job (primer coat by roller)and front fender dent was from the son. I have a replacement fender and paint ready to go. I was saving the paint job for last, the two stage paint (base coat/clear coat, white) $700+ value, I was going to paint this spring. I paint cabinets for a living and its fairly similar to automotive urethane. I never thought I would be selling but life is unpredictable... I'll list the upgrades below. I also have a kit from Power Driven Diesel ($1,200+ Value) that I never got around to installing, It nearly doubles the horse power and torque from stock (the best safe upgrade without needing to upgrade other things). The transmission was rebuilt a few thousand miles ago by Capital Transmission with upgraded parts ($5k +) New all terrain tires BFGoodrich KO2's ($1,500+) Less then a thousand miles on those....
I completely rebuilt the front end, new steering box, brake booster, synergy steering, metal cloak control arms, bilstein shocks, new hubs, rotors, calipers, water pump, complete dash rebuilt with gauges, I changed all fluids and am using mag Hytech covers for both differentials and transmission. I bought everything I could from Geno's garage (check them out!) and the rest from autozone which all has lifetime warranties. I also just bought two new red top optima batteries. I also took care of the "killer dowel pin". It has a cold air intake and a straight from turbo 4'' exhaust.
I have a really good friend who works on a lot of these 2nd generation Rams, so I had expert help when needed. I've also been told that the 96' was the best year for the mechanical P-Pump. At only 250k miles this thing is just breaking in...No SMOG needed, just paid registration…at the moment I am firm at $12k, If I still have it in a couple months I might paint it and list it for closer to $20k, (I already invested over $20k… and countless hours.)
I previously owed a 95' powerstoke 7.3l and used my friends 2002 Ford 7.3l and this dodge out preforms them both and is way easier to maintain.
