The time has come to sell my family's beloved 2007 4Runner. We are the second owners of the 4Runner and have owned it since 2011 when the original owner retired and moved overseas. Over the years I have done all routine maintenance myself and the 4Runner is in great mechanical condition. We are selling because we loved this 4Runner so much that we purchased a newer one.
Recent maintenance includes new Denso alternator and serpentine belt, new windshield, new “Genuine Toyota” window weatherstripping on all windows, including rear hatch, Michelin tires (2024), and about 18 months ago I performed a drain/fill of the radiator and power steering system. I last flushed the braking system maybe 3-4 years ago and installed new rotors and ceramic pads at that time (brakes work great and are noise/dust free). Oil changes were performed approximately every 5k miles with full synthetic. It is worth noting that the 187,5XX miles on this 4.0L V6 2WD/RWD (this is *not* a 4x4) are mostly highway miles, as this was my daily office commuter and weekend adventure vehicle for many years. I will be selling the 4Runner with four Genuine Toyota oil filters, 15 unopened quarts of full synthetic, and a repair manual, so that the new owner can keep this 4Runner’s DIY history alive if she/he chooses to.
Like any 18-year-old vehicle that was driven daily and mostly parked outdoors in later years, the 4Runner is not perfect. While it is in what I’d describe as great mechanical condition with a clear, accident-free title, it does suffer from Toyota’s notorious “clear coat failure.” Almost all of the clear coat has gradually peeled from the roof and hood, with some peeling near the upper portions of the vertical body panels. This is pretty common among older Toyotas, especially those with darker paint colors, and it has never bothered us enough to intervene with expensive paint work—I just use every wash as an opportunity to scrub off more of the flaking clear coat. Despite the clear coat issues the body and frame are rust-free. Aside from the paint issues, the body is in pretty good condition with a couple dings here and there.
The interior is in great condition with no rips, cracks, stains, or smells (we are a smoke-free family), and there are WeatherTech “all-weather” floor liners throughout (original carpet floor mats are included). Everything on the vehicle works great, including the AC/heater, sliding moonroof, rear hatch window, etc. Our 4Runner includes the optional third row, which we’ve never used—the seats have been wrapped in plastic and stored in our garage the last 14 years.
This is a great vehicle for a person who wants the legendary Toyota reliability and utility on a budget. In fact, if our oldest child wasn’t 3+ years from obtaining their driver’s license we would not be selling this 4Runner, as it would make a *perfect* first vehicle. While this 4Runner does not have 4WD, I have never had any difficulty driving on rutted/rocky unpaved trails or in light snow, and this 4Runner has transported my family and all of our gear on many adventures.
