2013 GTI in the enthusiast's choice Wolfsburg trim level-- light and simple with plaid seats, golfball shifter and lightning-quick DSG transmission. 2 owners and no accidents or smoking. Built after the timing belt tensioner problems that earlier VWs suffered from, so no worries there. Some choice updates have improved its performance and livability markedly:
- Koni "Special Active" shocks with FSD technology. These are a vastly simpler and cheaper way to get most of the benefits of active suspension. Compliant over sharp bumps but plenty of roll resistance.
- Eonon stereo with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto. A big, bright screen that runs Android so you can mod to your heart's content. Rearview camera too.
- Vredestein Hypertrac tires. Super sticky in the wet and the dry, quiet and long-lasting too.
- Shade screens for the rear doors and hatch windows. They seem to reject heat better than tinted windows with the added benefit that you can take them out whenever you want, like on a long nighttime drive or over the winter.
- Splash guards (mudflaps)
- Rubber floor mats
- LED fog lamps
Like any 10+ year-old car, it's not perfect, but its flaws are minor:
- Paint flaking on the front bumper. Both bumpers were resprayed before I bought the car a couple of years ago and the new paint, while the color match is perfect, just isn't sticking that well on the front bumper.
- Heater core partly clogged, heat isn't great when outdoor temps are below 50.
- Headliner fabric got loose, I fixed it back in place with a whole bunch of button/pin things that look fine but not "factory".
We are selling this car because we bought an almost identical 2017 GTI with extremely low mileage. The 2017 is "nicer" in basically every way but I actually like how this car drives better, so I will be sad to see it go.
