This is my 2nd MDX and it won’t be my last. Their great handling and solid ride have impressed me more than any other Japanese SUV I have driven; and I have driven or owned many of them. I’ve owned Lexus RX300, RX350, driven RX400 and RX 450’s, owned Toyota Highlanders and had long term use of Pathfinders, Pilots and Infinity’s.

While nice, the other SUV’s feel heavier, don’t corner as nicely and overall have a sluggish feel when compared to the MDX. You add in the Sport shifting option that tightens up the shifting and suspension and you have a car that is even fun on the Coast Highway. Few other SUV’s have Paddle Shifters and being able to easily shift up and down increases the braking, mileage and power in and out of corners; it’s also great fun.

The standard MDX has a 3.5 liter engine with 290 HP, a great motor; however Acura went 1 step better on the Hybrid model. They took the 3.0 liter motor from their NSX sports car and dropped it in the Hybrid. They then added 3 electric motors that provide power on demand, and pumped the total HP to 321, while improving the fuel mileage.
On the highway I easily get 30 mpg and have gotten 33 mpg many times. Around town it drops to the mid 20’s, but still very good. The batteries take over much of the time while at a steady speed in town, saving lots of wear on the motor. I expect it will easily reach 400,000 and then some (see article below).

It has every option that luxury cars have and all the collision avoidance sensors that cars now have. The leather seats can be heated or cooled and this is wonderful on a very hot or cold day.

It has quality tires with 70% of the tread left. They are Continental Cross Contact LS Sports, some of the best tires I’ve ever had. The Advance Package adds 20” wheels, wider tires and some nice trim features.

Acura only made the hybrid MDX from 2017-2020 and they have been in demand ever since. This keeps the resale value high and the supply very limited.

Recent Maintenance:
Replaced right and left front lower control arms and axles and aligned front end.
Oil and filter changed, Tires rotated
Antifreeze/coolant flushed and changed
Spark plugs replaced
Timing belt replaced

Quoted from an auto publication

“The Acura MDX stands out as a compelling choice for those who desire both luxury and undeniable longevity, defying the common perception that performance and opulent features must come at the expense of long-term reliability. Unlike many luxury counterparts, the MDX has repeatedly demonstrated its capacity to accumulate vast mileage, with anecdotal evidence painting a vivid picture of its enduring nature. Reports from enthusiasts and even dealership records highlight instances of MDX models logging astonishing figures, such as one spotted at 946,000 miles and a 2015 model reaching 735,000 miles, underscoring its profound durability.
Underpinning this impressive endurance is Acura’s meticulous engineering, closely tied to Honda’s renowned reputation for reliability. This blend of engaging performance and robust build quality is a rare find.
Beyond its compelling reliability scores and driving dynamics, the MDX offers an attractive value proposition, frequently undercutting much of its competition in price. While a minor critique regarding the infotainment touchpad was noted by some reviewers, it pales in comparison to the vehicle’s overall strengths. The MDX’s ability to effortlessly exceed 250,000 miles, cements its status as a smart, long-term luxury investment.”

“The 2019 Acura MDX is among the most recommendable and all-around competent 3-row luxury SUVs available. A complete package, it comes with impressive safety features, standard V6 power, and the reliability that is inherent to Honda’s premium brand. With a starting price just over $45,000, it undercuts European rivals such as the Audi Q7, BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE. For those seeking more aggressive looks, the 2019 MDX is debuting an A-Spec sport model that comes standard with Acura’s laudable Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive system. The sophisticated MDX Sport Hybrid, meanwhile, is both more powerful and more efficient.”

This is a wonderful car and it is looking for a new home.
