1967 Volvo Amazon 122S 2DR Coupe, $1200
This Vintage Volvo belonged to a very good friend and fellow vintage Volvo aficionado who lived in Willits in Mendocino County. Rob was a roadie for "Bill Graham Presents" back in the day and I would hazard a guess that the only thing that exceeded his commitment to the renovation of his vintage 122S Volvo was his passion for "The Grateful Dead".
I bought this car from his widowed partner with the intention of finding someone willing to make it roadworthy and bring it back from the edge of extinction!
The Good News:
The car contains the following special parts:
> A strong B20B engine with an IPD lifter kit installed.
> A strong standard 4-speed transmission.
> Rims widened to accommodate 15" lower profile radials tires.A
> A front anti-sway bar up-graded with a Heavy Duty IPD anti-sway bar kit allowing a more solid ride and much greater stability when cornering. Accompanying the front anti-sway bar kit is a Heavy Duty rear anti-sway bar kit, designed by IPD engineers to stabilize the rear suspension allowing for vastly improved stability while accelerating and corning which almost overnight transformed the Amazon 122S and 123GT rally cars into serious competitors on the North American and European vintage race car circuits. An amazing improvement, indeed!
> The car has the same Fog lamp and Driving lamp set-up with separate individually fused circuits found in the 123GT 2Door Coupe. Has a good working set of twin S.U. side draft Carburetors . Is in need of most if not all interior upholstery and original rubber mats, t Title: The car registration was signed over to me when I bought the car from my friend's partner following his passing.
Despite looking a bit worse for wear my friend's 122S Volvo 2-Door Coupe has a CLEAN TITLE
The Not So Good News:
The car was involved in a minor fender-bender when the driver of the an SUV slammed on her brakes for no obvious reason while in the middle of a busy Sacramento intersection. Fortunately, for a CHP officer observed the accident and he cleared my friend of any blame for the accident. The driver of the other vehicle was subsequently charged with insurance fraud for purposely causing the accident and for claiming that she had 4 children in the car with her when in truth she had only one child with her at the time of the accident. The Volvo sustained only minor body damage to the front fenders and hood. A front end inspection immediately following the accident revealed absolutely no damage to the frame nor front suspension. p. A quick front end inspection immediately following the accident revealed absolutely no damage to the frame nor front-end components. Later that day, my friend drove his Volvo from Sacramento to Willitts in Mendocino County. He reported that there were no steering nor alignment problems whatsoever.
A more comprehensive inspection was later undertaken in Willitts.
Bottom Line:
The right front fender was damaged and the hood was slightly dented, both of which can easily straightened without being removed from the car. There was no frame, steering component nor wheel alignment damage since the damage to the car was buffered by 12-16" of valence at the front of car, forward of the radiator. The radiator valence on this 1967 Volvo 122S is well designed and is made of heavy 20-gauge steel, so it's no surprise that it was dented but remains intact and functional.
The front bumper, however didn't fare so well. It is one of those solid steel chrome bumpers that are designed to absorb the impact of a front fender-bender, and it fulfilled its design function very well. To support the restoration of this vintage 122S Volvo i will include a replacement front bumper and useable radiator support free of charge and included in as a condition of sale of the car.
Other Considerations: (not related to the fender-bender:)
> The front windshield has noticeable cracks on the front lower-right corner
> The windshield wipers were removed and saved to discourage a visit from that midnight auto-wrecker. They will be added to the inventory... no charge.
> The right rear window: Historically the rear side windows are attached to the window frame by two metal rivets. The left rear side window has lost its rivets and has never been able to find them, however the rivets are a fairly common item to locate and once reattached they will hold the window in place and prevent the window glass and its chrome surround from falling clear of the rubber window frame and tumbling under the car. Currently the window glass remains intact and clear and void of cracks.
> There is a small dent on the left rear quarter panel adjacent to the space where the left rear tail light will be located.
> There is a small rust patch in the passenger side floor pan and around the bottom of the trunk lid. Both rust spots can be permanently filled using a product called "Por 15". That stuff is amazing!!!.
> Finally, take a close look at the photos and you will notice that there are a number of small items such as a chrome molding, the passenger side vent window, the gear shift knob, a window winder, a door handle and the trunk tire/wheel jack that are missing or damaged. I have a large inventory of vintage Volvo parts such as these that I am selling. However I will add them to the car's inventory free of charge if you meet my selling price
Selling Price Considerations:
The engine and drive train parts alone will fetch in excess $1500 however I am offering a discounted price because this car was my friends passion. Parting the car out would show no respect for his legacy nor his dedication to renovating the electrical and mechanical components and having the car roadworthy once again.- all critical steps in taking this car back from the brink!
If you intend to buy this car and you vintage car budget is tight, feel free to make an offer I can't refuse and the free parts offer will still apply.
