The Building Inspector - Supervising is assigned to the County's Building Services Division of the Community Development Resource Agency. One of the unique aspects of the position is, as a working supervisor, to perform plan check and field inspections on a regular basis, particularly for the more complex residential and commercial projects. Assignments will include responding to the most complex project inquiries, interpreting applicable code, and serving as a liaison between department management staff and the public.
The current vacancy is a permanent full time position assigned to the North Lake Tahoe Area. While inspections are mainly on residential buildings, there are some commercial assignments as well. The ideal candidate will have experience with both residential and commercial structures, particularly at elevations above 5000 feet and a demonstrated ability to lead and supervise lower level staff. The position does not require an engineering degree or engineering experience, but it is desirable.
Please note that the eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur in both the Auburn and Tahoe areas.
It is the responsibility of applicants to identify in their application materials how they meet the minimum qualifications listed below.
Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible advanced journey level experience performing duties similar to those of a Senior Building Inspector in Placer County.
Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college course work in building codes, construction technology or a related field. Additional training in supervision is highly desirable.
License or Certificate:
•Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as an Inspector issued by the International Code Council.
•May need to possess a valid driver's license as required by the position. Proof of adequate vehicle insurance and medical clearance may also be required.
