Tennessee Fainting Female Goat - $150 (Placerville)

Union Mine Road
Tennessee Fainting Goats, also known as Myotonic Goats or Stiff-Legged Goats, are a unique breed with several distinct characteristics. The breed’s most famous characteristic is a genetic condition called myotonia congenita, which causes their muscles to stiffen temporarily when startled or excited. This condition makes them "faint," or rather stiffen and sometimes fall over, though they remain conscious the entire time. The fainting episodes last only a few seconds, and the condition doesn’t harm the goats.

Fainting goats are typically medium-sized goats, with bucks (males) weighing between 120–200 pounds. They have a compact, muscular build compared to other breeds, making them good meat goats. They are known for being very friendly, docile, and easy to handle, making them great pets or companions, especially for families and children. Because of their muscular stiffness, they are less likely to jump or escape from enclosures compared to other goat breeds. Tennessee Fainting Goats are often raised for meat because they have a high muscle-to-bone ratio. Their compact, muscular bodies make them efficient for producing lean, high-quality meat.
