Please send a text if you would like a quick response. I do not check my emails daily.
Do NOT assist the chicks with hatching. Let them hatch on their own. Contact me if there are any complications.
I only sell bantam chicken eggs, so all females will be 1.5-2.5 lbs and males under 3 lbs. All bantams receive great care and repay with daily eggs of differing shapes and colors.
My chickens and chicks eat top quality food and supplements. The adult bantams are all parasite and disease free and see an avian vet for check-ups quarterly.
EGGS:
I can arrange to meet you in Natomas or Davis on weekends only (if either of these locations work better for you). All other days for pick-up will be in West Sacramento.
Bantam eggs cost $4 each egg or $40 for 1 dozen. The eggs laid from Silkie, Satin and Bantam Cochin hens will be labeled with the hen's name. Let me know if you would like for the eggs to be packaged before arriving (e.g., carton with napkins to secure).
Some of the colors include lemon blue, partridge, blue, black, white, brown, orange, beige, birchen, red, and gray. The feathering can be smooth and frizzled. You will receive a mixture of bantams that will weigh 3 lbs for hens and 3.5 lbs for roosters.
The eggs are fresh, stored large side up, and unwashed to ensure maximum hatching. Always allow for the eggs to acclimate to room temperature before placing them in a preheated incubator. My home hatches are very high at 100 degrees F and 50% humidity. Expect the eggs to hatch within 19 to 22 days (outside temperature can be a factor for speed).
SUCCESSFUL HATCHING:
Follow these steps if you want to have a better hatch rate:
1 Eggs should sit pointy side down at room temperature until you are ready to incubate the eggs.
2 If you feel the need of washing your eggs, do not do so until you are ready to put them in the incubator. Use a warm damp cloth and some apple cider vinegar to clean. Do not use chemicals, soap, or soak the eggs. Do not use hot water. Dry with a clean towel immediately after before you put into the incubator.
3. Candle the eggs to see how the air pockets look and where they are. If they are good, you will see a very small air pocket at the top.
4. Buy a Govee Thermometer/Hydrometer to monitor your incubator from your phone. I own multiple Govees to monitor my incubators and brooders. You will know before you arrive home if your incubator is lower on water.
Good luck and happy hatching!
CHICKS:
I currently have smooth Satins, frizzle Satins, and female bantam Cochins for sale. The colors include golden laced, cuckoo, partridge, black, beige, and white/black priced at $15 each for smooth chicks and $15 each. I require a 3 chick minimum purchase.
The chicks will be able to handle 70 degree weather at 1 month and 60 degree weather at 2 months. Chicks can be integrated with adults at around 3 months old (when they are 2/3rds their final size). All of these active sweet chicks are being raised by silkie and cochin hens in bins indoors or under heat lamps for the first month.
Feed adolescent chickens chick starter until they turn 5 months old (or grower feed at 3 months), and then switch to layer feed to build their reserves for laying at approximately 6 months. They can handle snacks such as scrambled eggs, plain yogurt, and chick sticks after 2 weeks.
Depending on the type of chicken, they should start laying eggs between 5 to 8 months old.
Please note I will not give back 6 digit codes from my phone!
