Extremely Rare!
Antique
Late 19th Century

Ornate
Hand Wrapped
Wrought Iron

Portal Garden Gates
Size: 48" x 71"

These gates are true "wrought" iron made before modern welding.
The joints are secured by a wrap of flat rod iron that has been
pulled around the joint and hammered to hold the pieces together.

The center plate was drilled and riveted in to place.

Only the upper hinge mounts are welded and
hey appear to be a very early welding technique.

Excellent Antique Condition

Bought at an Antique Shop in the Bay Area in California in the late 1960's.
It was removed from a remodel of a home on the 17 Mile Drive, in Carmel.

The gate was used for a while in the 80's thru 2000.
Gates have been securely packed away ever since.

Upper Hinge Brackets are a later modification. (Photos 2, 3, 4, & 17)

Side Vertical Bars extend 1 1/2" beyond the bottom rail
to serve as hinge pins. (Photos 12, 13, 18, & 19)
I leave it to the buyer to design new bottom hardware.
