1987 Gibson Sunset LP Custom Lite - Sunset Metallic Second owner of this stellar and pretty rare instrument.
Instrument verified in December, 2020 by Gibson
• Finish-checking is nearly non-existent and hard to see
• Original Tim Shaw pickups - these alone sell for insane $$$ [bridge had been replaced with an SD; I reinstalled the Tim Shaw]
• Pickup covers had been removed; they've been resoldered on
• All hardware is original but for the 'poker chip' Rhythm/Treble plate which has been replaced with a gold metal one. I have a vintage replacement as well
• Frets replaced at some time prior to my purchasing the instrument; beautiful work by whomever
• No headstock break, yeah!
• Fretboard is IMMACULATE, just a little dirty from play
• OHSC Chainsaw case in very good condition included - these go for $300
THE BACKSTORY
I first saw one of these in a Gibson advert way back in the annals of time when dinosaurs like me still walked the earth. The color was/is so striking and, seeing JP playing one in the advert... well that sealed the deal. I had to get one.
Fast forward from 1987 to 2020 and I go to the home of someone selling a Hohner/Steinberger bass which I end up buying for my cousin. The seller tells me he's thinking of selling an old LP as he's got an instrument he prefers and the LP is just sitting under the proverbial bed. I ask him to show it to and... OMG. this is what he shows me.
I said, "let me know when you want to move it... I want it, if I can afford it". Less than two months later he contacted me and I raided my piggy bank to scrape together the cash. That's the Dog's honest truth; no truthiness...
And, while I LOVE this guitar, I have one I really do prefer and this one is... almost literally gathering dust under the bed.
Make a reasonable offer. you and I know what these instruments are fetching on 'verb and other online systems; they're not cheap because they are highly regarded. This instrument could almost pass for 'new' barring some very minor finish checking, the replaced frets and a bit of wear on the gold hardware.
Also, I am listing this elsewhere. I'd rather sell it locally but needs must as the devil drives......
