Starting with this very unique, ONE-PIECE SOLID-CORE RAYA Canadian Maple shell and finished in this beautiful, natural oil-rubbed finish.
This shell is not to be confused with a Stave design or Steam Bent shell. This shell has actually been hollowed out from one solid chunk of maple, then cut with 45 degree bearing edges. Absolutely stunning and what a fantastic, pure sound.
SEAMLESS SINGLE-PLY OF 5.5”x14” HOLLOWED-OUT AND HIGHLY FIGURED CANADIAN MAPLE Snare Drum.
NOT a block or stave drum. No reinforcing rings or glue of ANY kind necessary. A SOLID CORE of Canadian Maple and Ray personally picks the wood (he's crazy picky and selective). Aging and a lot of work goes into them. A TRULY SEAMLESS, VERY STRONG, AND RESONANT MAPLE SHELL, cut from a hollowed-out Canadian Maple Tree IS THE RESULT.
These extremely RARE (AND WERE VERY FEW RELEASED)LIMITED SEAMLESS SINGLE-CORE RAYA SHELLS aquired from Ray Ayotte (of Ayotte Drums fame) by Ronn Dunnett, who hand-oil-rubbed (Matte Natural), edged, snare-bedded, drilled and festooned the drum with gorgeous chrome hardware, which includes TRIPLE-FLANGED 10-HOLE HOOPS, 24-strand wires and Dunnett R-Class R5 Adjustable, Swiveling Quick-Release Strainer/Throw-off.
PURE MAGICAL TONE AND TENSION LATITUDE.
And look at the beautiful figuring of the Vertically HIGHLY FIGURED Maple grain! GORGEOUS.
And no disrespect to Canopus Zelkova, Brady, Craviotto or Noble and Cooley or Slingerland Radio King; but this RARE AND LIMITED GEM easily rivals the very best that I’ve played and owned. This drum truly covers ALLL of the bases, and then some. Extremely sensitive and wonderful under the microphone. PHAT AND ULTRA-SENSITIVE — A TRUE head-turner!!
