F/S F/T Overwater Chris May Custom made Guitar 1983 Near Mint New Case..... REDUCED

Great playing and sounding custom guitar made for London Session Musician Jon Gold

In excellent near mint condition. A bit of checking and a few swirls here and there. Small ding on back of headstock. In brand new $200 case. With Kahler tremolo bar..

Mahogany body with straight-through neck
flame maple top
ebony fingerboard,

Has pull up coil tapping and a phase switch that does Peter Green perfectly. On the lighter side. Recently all set up with low action.
There is not a sound you can't get out of this but I am more of a bassist and Telecaster guy. Was just going to keep this but someone will love and play this guitar. Kahler tremolo stays in tune perfectly, cool wood pickup covers.

Again a beautifully made instrument with great fretwork just not something I need.

Looking to sell but possibly open to Bass Guitars, Musicman, Fender Precision, Nash, Nash Telecasters, Gibson Special or Junior TV Yellow. Maybe a Fender Jazzmaster. Plus or minus cash. May consider a Hot Rodded Strat ESP Floyd Rose.

Below is some information from a Private Collector who owned this instrument:

This guitar is the second of my custom collection that I am selling. It was made by the legendary English luthier for the top UK session musicians, Chris May of The Overwater Guitar Company in 1983 for London guitar virtuoso Jon Gold. I bought the guitar from Jon at his Seven Dials Music store in Covent Garden, London before he got a chance to play it because it was such a perfect instrument in every way. Since then it has had extremely little playing time over the past 33 years, perhaps 30 hours total, and has spent it's life in it's case as part of my display collection.

I contacted Chris May before putting this up for sale to see if he remembered the guitar, and he confirmed that this was not one of his first generation instruments - developed with Andy's in Denmark Street, but one of very few custom second generation six strings he created while developing the custom basses for many of the top session players on the London studio scene. Just like those instruments this guitar was designed to be incredibly flexible and produce beautiful tones in any style, with the double tapped humbuckers and very wide tonal range. It is also one of the first instruments that I had come across that used thru body fine tuners and a whammy bar, along with a head tuners and a lock - and it holds it's tuning regardless of what you do to it.

The finish on the guitar is exceptional, with a super deep lacquer and body stained mid-blue on the front face and a dark brown on the back, both showing the matched book wood grain (the pictures don't do it justice). The wooden pickup covers are a nice touch, and so is the binding on the neck, which is wide and slim and extremely playable.

This is a beautiful, highly unique instrument that has come from the hands of one of the all time great European luthiers - and you won't find another one like it in the US, and probably not in the UK now. It has extremely low playing time and has aged perfectly for the tone to be really refined.
