We are a busy local trade printing company, located in West Sacramento seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Saddle Stitcher / Bindery Finish Operator to join our bindery team. In this role you’ll operate and maintain the saddle-stitching equipment (booklets, magazines, catalogues, brochures) and ensure each finished product meets our high standards of quality, accuracy, and efficiency. You’ll thrive if you’re mechanically inclined, comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment, and interested in growing your skillset in finishing.
Responsibilities:
- Set up, operate and tear-down saddle stitch machines in accordance with job tickets, machine specifications and finishing requirements.
- Inspect finished products (booklets, magazines, brochures) for accuracy in binding, trim, alignment and staple-quality.
- Perform routine machine maintenance: cleaning, lubrication, replacing parts, clearing jams, making adjustments to keep equipment running at peak efficiency.
- Monitor production metrics: downtime, waste, reject rate, finish counts — and work with team to improve processes and maintain workflow.
- Maintain safe, clean, organized bindery area; follow safety protocols, quality control procedures, and collaborate with other bindery/finishing staff to meet deadlines.
- Cross-train on other finishing equipment (folders, cutters, trimmers) as needed to support the bindery department.
Qualifications:
- 1-2 years (or more) experience operating saddle stitching machines or bindery finishing equipment in a printing or publishing environment STRONGLY preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude: ability to set up machines, make adjustments, trouble-shoot issues and maintain equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and quality control: you notice when something is slightly off and take action to correct it.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy under pressure.
- Physical demands: Ability to lift up to ~50 lbs, stand for extended periods, bend, reach, move material.
- Good communication, teamwork skills, and a positive attitude.
- Experience with bindery/booklet finishing equipment (saddle stitchers, collators, folders), knowledge of print finishing terminology, ability to read job tickets and bindery specs.
