Create Accessible Bathroom & Kitchen for an elderly low income couple (Sacramento)

Couple together 51 yrs serving God by helping homeless people and animals for 43 years usually taking them in to live with them as their own children or pets. Now both are disabled and the Primary Suite in the house they share with their clients has become inaccessible for them as has the main kitchen. In order to convert their entire primary suite many tasks need to be done, some with licensed contractors, and some with handymen, and volunteers. We broke them down into small pieces to make it easier. Pick one or more of the numbered items below, imagine your name after the dashes of tasks you can and are willing to do, and contact us. We will put your name down for that task! The sooner we have YOU VOLUNTEER'S Names next to the dashes on this list, the sooner we can start and the sooner this couple can be back in their living space and not in the family room! AND the sooner the ministry can resume in its new approach.
Guidebook for the project exists, some funds have been provided, & there are supervisors to can guide, direct, or help if needed:
1. Demolish freestanding shower.--- DONE
2. Repair moldy wood studs ---
3. Remove damaged insulation ---
4. Remove Sheetrock on walls and ceiling --- started
5. Remove vanity, sinks, and linen cupboard -- DONE
6. Remove Load Bearing Walls and Re-Support Properly (safely, legally) --- (awaiting 3 bids and financing for the project)
7. Re-do the floor of the shower area (9'4" x 4'5" on one end x 5'1" on the other and open on the other side) so the drain works properly, safely and legally --- (awaiting 3 bids and financing)
8. Sister all studs for load bearing strength of heavy duty safety grab bar installation later ---
(Purchase studs, nails, bolts) ---
9. Re-insulate ---
(Purchase insulation.) ---
10. Re-sheetrock but with waterproof GoBoard ---
(Purchase Goboards, tape, mud) ---
11. Install wall panels or surround in the shower area --- see pic of a wall panels a previous contractor showed and were greatly desired but no one knows where to find them. Can You? ---
(Purchase surround, adhesive) ---
12. Install shower appartii ---
(Purchase same.) ---
13. Install a comfort height toilet where the previous shower was. --- (awaiting bid, funds, legal safe)
(Purchase toilet, flange, wax ring, seat, handle, moving parts.) ---
14. Put flooring everywhere to repair or replace damaged or missing flooring with waterproof easy wheelchair rollable flooring -- (awaiting bids & financing.)
15. Create a roll-in lip between the shower floor and rest of the bathroom. ---
(Purchase a premade silicone/rubber dam.) ---
15. a. Install safety grab bars --- (a donor has pledged to purchase bars and another to install them)
16. Install a shower curtain rod(s) to curtain off shower and toilet areas. ---
(have rods and need cups and screws purchased, have rings and curtains, need hem weights purchased.) ---
17. Build a wall to divide the bathroom and kitchen areas. ---
(have 5 studs and a pound of carpentry nails, need sheetrock, tape and mud purchased.) ---
18. Spackle patch and paint the walls and ceilings in all areas. ---
(have spackle, spatula, paint, trays, brushes.)
19. Paint freestanding cabinets/furniture to go in kitchen and bath ---
(have some furniture; purchase other/more. Purchase paint, (stencils?) brushes/sponges, knobs, (hinges?) ---
20. Install bathroom cabinet with top of cabinet sink ---
(have sink and cabinet, have pipes and water hoses.)
21. Install Lights, Outlets, ---legal, safe, bid? funds?
(purchase switch covers) ---
22. Install range hood and ADA range --- awaiting bid, funds to purchase range,
(find purchase (microwave hood?) ---
23. Install kitchen sink with arching sprayer and open underneath for wheelchair use ---
(have sink, have pipe, water lines, need faucet, mount, curtain)---
24. Take debris to the dump ---
(we have a truck, (awaiting registration to be sent from the DMV)
25. Put all painted and repaired furniture/cabinets back in kitchen and bathroom as determined ---
26. Put all personal furniture and belongings and food etc. in and move the couple back ---
27. CELEBRATE and Rejoice with us all!!!
