I am writing this letter to provide a full and transparent description of my 1985 Cadillac DeVille, a vehicle that I have owned, cared for, and maintained with pride. I am the second owner of this classic car, and I have had it in my possession for quite some time. Throughout my ownership, I have invested a significant amount of work, money, and attention into keeping it running, preserving its original condition, and maintaining the smooth, comfortable ride that these Cadillacs are known for.
This DeVille is nearly 40 years old, yet it still carries the classic luxury and presence that made Cadillac the top American luxury brand of its time. The car truly drives like a dream whenever it’s running. I never intended to sell it because it has sentimental value to me, and because it represents a piece of American automotive history. However, as a 24-year-old working to stabilize my life and responsibilities, I no longer have the time or specialized mechanical support needed for a car of this age. Unfortunately, not many mechanics today are familiar with or willing to work on older models like this one. For that reason alone, I am making the difficult choice to let it go.
Throughout my ownership, I have repaired or replaced nearly every major component that typically fails on a classic car. I have installed a new battery, a new alternator, and previously resolved an issue where the car wasn’t getting spark. I have addressed the fuel system, including the fuel pump relay, and the vehicle has received extensive attention to ensure reliability. The radiator has been replaced, and the car has new tires, improving both safety and ride quality. I have consistently worked on the car to keep it in top condition, staying ahead of age-related wear and making sure that everything mechanical was handled with care.
At this moment, the only issue the car is experiencing is an electrical problem causing a crank-but-no-start condition. The engine turns over strong, thanks to the new battery and alternator, but it does not start. Before this issue appeared, the vehicle ran smoothly and performed well on the road. The electrical problem seems isolated, and I believe someone with experience in older GM electrical systems could resolve it. Unfortunately, due to the age of the vehicle, local mechanics are hesitant to take on the job, which leaves me unable to complete the last step it needs.
Despite this current starting issue, the car remains in overall impressive shape for its age. The body, frame, and major components are solid, and the majority of the essential repairs have already been completed. Once someone with the right knowledge addresses the electrical issue, this DeVille will return to being the comfortable, smooth-riding, dependable classic it has always been.
I want the next owner to understand that this is not just a car—it is a well-preserved piece of history that has been cared for with dedication. I am only selling it because I can no longer find specialized support in my area, not because I want to part with it. With the right person, this Cadillac will continue to run beautifully for years to come.
If you are someone who appreciates classic American vehicles or enjoys restoring older models, this 1985 Cadillac DeVille has tremendous potential. I hope it finds a new owner who values it as much as I have.
